Disconnect the rear motor vent to the crank case at the center hose directly ahead of the leading edge of the wing. 29. Disconnect the assembly drain tube from the fuel and coolant pump at the center hose located forward of the leading edge of the wing. 30. Disconnect the propeller control rod at the lower bell crank at the top left of the firewall. 31. Disconnect the mixture control rod at the carburetor (top bell crank). 32. Disconnect the throttle control at the center bell crank. 33. Disconnect the magneto electrical conduit at the firewall, removing one adell clamp from the engine mount bar. 34. Disconnect the carburetor vent at the fire. wall hose directly below the top engine mount attachment fitting on the left side. 35. Disconnect the generator electrical conduit at the generator disconnect plug located at the center rear of the generator. 36. Disconnect the coolant inlet line at the hose connection under the center of the coolant expansion tank. 37. Disconnect the coolant expansion line at the top of the coolant expansion tank. 38. Disconnect the rear motor crank case vent at the firewall hose connection at the left of the coolant expansion tank. 39. Attach an Allison engine hoisting sling to the engine and take. the weight of the engine off the mounts. Use a hoist having a safe load of 11/2 tons. 40. Remove the safety wire and the 16 bolts from the engine mount vibration absorbers. 41. Spread the en~me mount apart by prying with a bar and lift the engine up and forward at the |
same time, guard the cuno oil filter on the lower right side of the engine from striking the engine mount bars -use caution! (c) ENGINE ACCESSORIES. 1. The accessories mounted on the engine consist of a starter, generator, fuel pump and propeller governor. 2. REMOVAL: The side engine cowl and rear side cowl must be removed before the generator, starter or fuel pump may be removed. The top cowl must be removed before the propeller governor may be removed. To remove any of these accessories, remove the nuts which; attach the unit to the mounting boss, remove the control levers or attaching lines and elec. trical conduits and remove the unit. 3. ASSEMBLY: The assembly of these units is a reversal of the removal procedure. b. POWER PLANT CONTROLS (Drawing No. 87-460-1000) (See Fig. 77). (1) DESCRIPTION: A conventional control quadrant is installed on the left side of the cockpit. The throttle, mixture and propeller control levers are contained in this quadrant. A radio control "push to talk" button is installed in the knob of the throttle control lever. A stop on the throttle control consisting of a latch which may be raised to enable the pilot to open the throttle all the way for war emergency power. The throttle control latch stop must be set to give a maximum of 52" Hg. when the engine is turning at 3000 r.pin. on the ground. (2) ADJUSTMENT: All control rods and bell crank& must be adjusted to give full and free movement of the control arms of each respective unit. See that the control rods are not bent or touching any position of the airplane through the full movement of the controls. (3) LUBRICATION: Anti-friction bearings require lubrication only at major overhaul periods. Refer to the lubrication chart for proper lubrication of all moving parts. (See Fig. 21). |
